Decisions and Situations

There are good decisions and bad decisions; good situations and bad situations. Good or bad is subject to the perspective you take of the decision or situation. Both decisions and situations are passed down across the levels and generations of people in businesses. What people do with their decisions and situations is what makes them good people and / or bad people. That is not to say that people are inherently good or bad, rather we are a result of the decisions we make, the situations we put ourselves in, and the perspective that others take. Our lives and businesses are an amalgamation of our choices, and every choice we make has led us into the exact place we find ourselves in, in the present moment, including reading this post.

The history of our decisions and situations become the legacy that we leave for others, whether we acknowledge it or not. Our current and future employees, customers, communities, leaders, board members, shareholders, and even competitors will inherit our decisions and situations, just like we have inherited the decisions and situations of those before us.

What if we were to re-imagine and design a future business environment more inspired by love than what we have today? By “love”, I mean a deep and sincere appreciation / respect / care / compassion / affection for our employees, customers, suppliers,  communities, environment, economy,  country, and universe. What would be possible for us as individuals and as a commercial entity? Dr. Martin Luther King called us into this discussion, and what have we done since as a collective society? I would say that what we have done to date is admirable, imperfect, and insufficient at the same time.

As a business change leader, I humbly strive to engage my clients and business eco-system to be a man for others, someone who brings others together, and a person who creates change so that the world might be a better version of itself in the future. As a middle aged white man, I am proud of my legacy to date and am committing to do more in my business to bring all people together, particularly my colleagues of all colors and walks of life, in the spirit of building a better future for the generations to come.

I am committing to more love, more impactful decisions, and improved situations in my work, with the explicit intention of leaving a purposeful legacy so that future generations of professionals may experience a better world than we have today.

Will you join me in the spirit of this intention and work? Just share this post and then go forth within your own situation to make decisions with this intention of love being witnessed in your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Remember that in this work, perfection is an illusion, and the pursuit of perfection creates excellence.
